The one change I made was that I cut grooves in the base to match up with the side slots. This way the knife cuts all the way through the bread before it bottoms out. I made it out of Oak and finish it with Walrus Oil (which is a cutting board oil made with coconut oil, natural beeswax, mineral oil, and vitamin E).
