Milling & Assembly

	To get started on building the Window Bird Feeder.  I cut all of my boards to size.  I used my miter saw for this, but any good saw should be able to do the job easily.
	For assembly I used (a lot of) exterior rated glue to the sides and front and back boards.  I clamped these up until they were dry (about an hour).  The glue up surface should be enough to hold this together.  I could have reinforced using screws or brads, but I think mine will hold up.
	For the bottom of the window bird feeder I cut a piece of screen to size and attached it using a staple gun.  There are different types of screen available I used aluminum for mine.
	The next step is to create the support bars.  To do this I attached the support spacers to the support bars using an exterior rated glue.  I clamped them up until dry (about an hour).
	To hang my feeder I chose to use some simple screw eyes installed into the top of the support bars.  I pre-drilled the holes for the screw eyes to ensure I didn’t split the wood.
	To finish my windows bird feeder I attached the support bars to the feeder using an exterior rated glue and screws.  I placed the bars inset from the sides about .75″ and about .25″ inset from the top. To mount this to my window; I used suction cups that I picked up at a local big box store.

• (1) 1 x 6″ x 4′ (I started with a scrap board of this height and width and had enough left over to make more)

Milling & Assembly

	The first step on the Suet Bird Feeder was to cut all of my boards to length.  I followed the plans for this and cut the sides to 2-1/2″ x 6-1/4″.  Then I cut a small groove into the bottom and sides.  I cut a 1/8″ width(blade width) groove 1/4″ deep and inset on each side 1/4″.
	The bottom of the feeder has a nice a feather rest feature.  I followed the plan and cut mine to a length of 4″ x 6″.  I used my quick corners to figure mark quick rounded edge.
	Next up was cutting the wire mesh to hold the Suet Cake.  I used wire snips for mine and it was pretty easy to make it fit.
	For the assembly of the feeder I used glue and brad nails.  You could just as easily use screws and finish nails.
	For the feather rest I repeated the same thing that I did for the sides.  I used an exterior rated glue and brad nails.
	For the top of the feeder I cut and bent the brass rod to the size I needed.  I drilled holes into the top of the feeder and slid the brass rod into those holes and attached them to the sides.
	There it is.  Another backyard feeder for the birdies.  My intention is to try to pull in the woodpeckers this year.  I also made a woodpecker feeder if you’re interested in attracting those types of birds.

Cut List

(1)   3″ x 3″ x 9″ board.  You can vary the lenght of these boards depending on how many feeder holes you want.

Milling & Assembly

	The first thing I did was layout my roof line.  I did this by finding the center point at the top of my block, and then measuring down 2″ inches on each side.  The will keep water from pooling anywhere on the wood.  Next up I marked where my holes would be drilled.  Then finally I marked where the perches would be just below the holes.
	I used a band saw to cut the roof out.  You could use a jigsaw too, but I think a band saw allows for more control.
	Next up I drilled out the holes using a 1-1/2″ forstner bit.  From what I can tell this appears to be the most common size for suet cake pods that are available.
	The next step in the woodpecker feeder was to make a perch that the birds could grab a hold of.  There are a lot of options you do here.  You could simply attach a couple small strips to the outside of the block for the birds to grab on to.  I decided to go with a recessed look and I used a core box router bit to make mine.
	The last step was to attach a hanger to the top of the feeder.  I pre-drilled a small hole to help make this easier.

Finishing

I finished this by breaking all the sides with sandpaper and then used a couple coats of a sealer to help protect it from the elements.  Overall I think it turned out great.

If you’re looking for an easy to build hummingbird feeder this one is perfect.  I made this hummingbird feeder in only a few hours.  I got the plan from a book written by A.J. Hamler.  A.J. is a an excellent woodworker and his book:  Easy to Build Birdhouses – A Natural Approach is a fun one.  I’ve made several projects from this book and I wrote a book review where I have more information if your interested.  The tubes for the feeder you can find in pet stores in the pet bird feeder section, and the bottle stoppers you can find in craft stores or online.  I wanted to make a few of these so I ordered mine off of Amazon.  The little feeder tubes at the end I ordered online, but I’ve seen these in bird stores too.  I put links at the bottom of this post where you can find some of the items I used to build this.

Not a lot for this one.  I used a single 8′ board of cedar that I was able to pickup at Lowe’s.

• (2) – Hummingbird Feeder Tubes
• (2) – Bird Feeder Tube 8 1/2″ 

Milling & Assembly

	For the bench I chose to make all of my cuts using a miter saw.  Nothing complicated about these cuts.  The whole thing is made with only 5 boards.
	I used a quick corner marking tool to get my corners for the bottom and top of the feeder.
	For the finish cuts, I did all of them using my band-saw.  You could do these with a jig saw too.  These are simple and quick cuts.
	For the top of the feeder I cut holes all the way through it.  For the bottom of the feeder.  I cut the holes about an inch deep, and then cut another hole for the feeder tubes to slide through.
	I used exterior rated glue and brads to attach the bottom of the feeder to the base and sides.
	For the handle I used a brass piano wire that I picked up at a hobby store.  The sides are bent and go into the sides of the feeder.
	After I had the feeder assembled,  I inserted the Hummingbird Feeder Tubes into the bottom, and then slid the Bird Feeder Tube 8 1/2″ into the feeder tubes.

Finishing

Not a lot to this one.  I did a light sanding with a medium grit sandpaper, and then applied a coat of an exterior lacquer to help protect it form the elements.
